Mayor Halverson's Letter of Thanks to Senator Feingold

November 13, 2009

I would like to thank Senator Feingold and his staff for choosing Stevens Point as the capstone community for his 2009 listening sessions. The Senator traveled over 12,000 miles this year listening to the questions and concerns of citizens throughout Wisconsin. It was truly a pleasure to have him in Stevens Point once again, and I am personally grateful that he continues to fulfill his campaign promise to hold town-hall style listening sessions every year. These listening sessions provide the citizens of communities like ours to have direct contact with the people who we have elected to make decisions about where our Country is headed.

Over the past 17 years Senator Feingold has been a leader in legislative advocacy. He deserves our praise for always doing what he believes to be best for the citizens of Wisconsin. Often times this has meant breaking from his party and crossing the aisle to work with Republicans on important issues such as campaign finance reform and others. His independence and willingness to do what is right at all times, as opposed to what is simply politically advantageous, deserves special attention and recognition.

It is clear that Senator Feingold will take the concerns of Wisconsinites back to Washington D.C. and work for meaningful legislation that will make the lives of Wisconsin citizens better. I hope the Senator will decide to visit Stevens Point again next year when he does his listening tour all over again. If he does, I'm sure the citizens of Stevens Point and Portage County will show up and provide meaningful concerns and tough questions for him just as they did this year.

Once again I would like to express a warm thank you to Senator Feingold for choosing Stevens Point, and for being a true leader nationwide for Wisconsin and the entire United States.

Sincerely,
Mayor Halverson's Signature
Andrew J. Halverson, Mayor of Stevens Point
